Have you ever been bored out of your mind? What did you end up doing? Watching television or play a video game? Call a friend? Everyone gets bored sometimes and there is nothing necessarily wrong with that, but if boredom knocks on your door more than you’d like, perhaps you could think about acquiring a love of learning.
Do you realize that there are so many interesting things to learn in the world? Really, there’s enough information and cool things to learn that you could literally never be bored again.
If you want to develop a love of learning, consider these tips to do so:
Be on the search for new places in your town. Try to avoid eating at the same restaurants and shopping at the same places. There are probably a hundred new places in town you’ve never stepped foot in. Be on the lookout for that new Greek restaurant or that art store tucked away down that dead end street. Walk the streets and get to know your community and the independent store owners. Learn what’s hip and what’s not and be sure to invite your friends and family to do the same.
Read various newspapers. You might be partial to your own newspaper, but take a chance and begin browsing other newspapers as well. See what’s going on in neighboring towns or how the world news is covered in the USA Today or other national newspapers. There’s plenty of information in newspapers, but remember not to believe everything you read.
Ask interesting people questions. Ever want to find out why that guy at the coffee shop stares intently at his computer screen every Friday? Or why your barber has that three inch scar covering his cheek? Don’t be afraid to ask people questions, as you may hear some interesting stories and learn a thing or two. This goes for experts as well. If you have a question about a certain topic, look up experts in the field and ask away. Most people delight in sharing their knowledge with eager folks.
Hit the search engines. This is quite popular. These days people Google everything! Get in the habit of hitting Google or other search engines like Ask.com and typing in something you want to learn about. If you aren’t sure what you want to learn about, see what everyone else is asking about on Ask.com. You might find some interesting threads.
Read books. Many lovers of learning adore reading books, as books furnish you with a plethora of information from all sorts of people. Been wondering about metaphysics since watching The Big Bang Theory? Read about it. Have you been struggling to keep a relationship going? Get some good relationship advice books and get to reading. (Your future mate will appreciate it)
I guarantee you that if you foster a love of learning you will not regret it. Plus, you’ll become well educated and that goes a long way in our information soaked world. Have fun with learning and know that you don’t have to suffer from boredom any longer.
