Dr. Angelo Volandes is a physician and researcher at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital. He is an internationally recognized leader in improving the quality of care at the end of life. His work has been covered in all the major media, and he lectures widely around the country. His first book, The Conversation, was just released by Bloomsbury Press. Joanna Paladino, MD is a Research Fellow with the Serious Illness Care Program at Ariadne Labs, where she contributes to the quality and integrity of the program’s content and works with a team to execute strategies that are critical to the program’s mission. In her current role, Jo coordinates the implementation efforts for the Serious Illness Care Randomized Trial in ten disease centers. Her primary research interest is to integrate mixed-methods approaches into measurement and improvement efforts to ensure high quality implementation. As a cancer survivor, Jo also takes an active role in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society as a speaker and fundraiser.
Justin Sanders, MD, MSc, is a Research Fellow with the Serious Illness Care Program at Ariadne Labs, where his work focuses on disparities in care of the seriously ill.
Justin is an Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School and an attending physician in the Psychosocial Oncology and Palliative Care department at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Brigham and Women’s Hospital. As a Fulbright Scholar, Justin studied barriers to utilization of hospice services among South Asian Muslims in East London, UK. His academic interests include health care access, medical care of the under-served, substance misuse amongst the seriously ill, and the medical humanities, including narrative medicine. Justin serves as the visuals editor for Pulse: Voices from the Heart of Medicine, an online narrative medicine journal.
