Productivity is quite important when it comes to work. Don’t you want to go to work and feel majorly productive each day? What happens when you don’t? I bet you get stressed out. In fact, when productivity is low for whatever reason, tension and anxiety increased significantly, which can ultimately negatively affect your emotional and physical health.
Industry diligence and perseverance are godsends! Show me ten employees who value such traits and I’ll guarantee you their business flourishes. According to Wikipedia, diligence means “steadfast application”. It’s simply HARD WORK. Perseverance is steadfastness despite difficulty. So industry diligence and perseverance can rock the biz world for sure!
Need a good dose of each for your job?
Here are some valuable tips:
When tempted to stop a task, don’t. I’m sure you’ve begun a task and this thought pops into your head: Hmmm. I’m hungry. I should go get a snack. So you stop the task and head off to the break room for a snack. This does not always cause a problem, but many times we never get back to that task or we take an hour to do what would take 15 minutes if we stopped taking breaks! When the thoughts come to break your effort in finishing your task, ignore it. When you finish the task, then you can go get your snack with a great feeling of being done!
Get work done ahead of time. Ever put off a bunch of tasks for the afternoon that you could have done in the morning? Or wait till 4pm to finish up when you could have all your work done before 4? Get your work done ahead of time and you’ll not only feel great about yourself, you free yourself up to do other things that you want to do. In other words, stop procrastinating!
Lay off the daydreaming and distractions. The mind is continually running with thoughts and the temptation to daydream about flying off to Paris or jumping in the pool later is sometimes strong, but try to resist such. If you’re mind starts wandering, pull it back quickly and keep focused. Industry diligence also requires you resisting distractions. That includes turning your cell phone off (so you don’t check Facebook every three minutes) or keep looking at it to see if anyone has sent you a text.
Utilize a calendar. Put a calendar on your wall and use it. Mark down meetings and due dates for assignments. You’ve probably tried to keep it all in your head before and failed a time or two. Using a calendar is an easy solution to forgetfulness. Set your goals and use your ninja skills to achieve them. Take some time each day to set your goals and simply do it!
Diligence means doing what you need to do whether you feel like it or not. Need to have five press releases done by noon? Write it down and get busy! As long as your goals are reasonable, you can achieve them if you really set your mind to it and take action.
So the next time industry diligence and perseverance comes up in your manager’s conversations, rest assured that your name will be on the top of his “positive” list. Smile knowing that you’re really doing it! You’re really kicking some booty in corporate America. (or wherever you work).
“Courage and perseverance have a magical talisman, before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish into air.” ― John Quincy Adams
