He then joined the Peace Corps, and spent two years in the Republic of Niger in West Africa. Returning to his home state of New York, he became an editor at Harcourt Brace, where he edited a wide range of books. In 1988 Gene began a career as a writer and ghost writer, and has written or co-written over thirty books with a diverse group of people including Stephen Hawking and others. More here.
